Preventative Medicine
Dr. Sosa is the best preventative medical doctor in South Lake County. If you are looking for disease prevention, he is the primary care physician to meet with. When Dr. Sosa meets with patients for the first time he will ask many questions to understand your health history and your lifestyle choices. Guiding patients to healthy living requires us to have insight into your background beyond just your blood pressure and heart health.
We will want to know if you exercise and how often, what you eat and how often you eat, do you smoke or drink, do you use drugs and what your employment capacity is. Many patients are surprised to learn that their overall health is affected by not only what they eat but also their lifestyle. Do you lead a sedentary lifestyle or are you fairly active? Do you sit at a desk all day on a computer or is physical movement part of your nine to five job? This is all information that Dr. Sosa and our clinical team want to know about each of our patients so we can provide the best preventative care possible. Our goal as a preventative primary care medical office is to promote, protect and maintain optimal health and well-being for each of our patients and to prevent disability and diseases.
What are preventative medical recommendations?
As we age it’s important to do routine maintenance on our bodies, just like on a car. If you own a car you typically take it into your mechanic for a routine oil change and possibly a transmission flush at so many miles. Your body is no different. When you reach the age of 45 we recommend a colonoscopy to check for colorectal cancer. By the age of 40 we recommend our female patients have a mammogram every one to two years. When patients meet with us for their annual physical we recommend a urine test to rule out diabetes, kidney disease or other urinary problems. We also will check your weight and blood pressure with each visit so we have a documented record over time of what’s normal for a patient.
As a preventative medicine physician, Dr. Sosa is skilled in working with patients to guide them on their quest for a healthy lifestyle. With so many drugs in the marketplace to help you lose weight, manage your blood pressure, reduce your cholesterol along with a whole host of other drugs, Dr. Sosa’s mission is to help patients develop healthy habits. Our team strives to help patients stay healthy and active in their geriatric years so they are not burdened with relying on prescriptions to maintain a happy lifestyle.
